About the Amelanchier Honeywood
The Amelanchier alnifolia Honeywood is a strong and winter-hardy serviceberry with a compact and attractive growth habit. In spring the plant flowers abundantly with white flowers, after which dark purple, edible berries with a deliciously sweet flavour develop. Honeywood is known for its good yield and large fruit clusters, often with around 9 to 15 fruits per cluster. It is also a later-ripening variety, allowing the berries to be harvested later in the season than those of many other serviceberries. The Honeywood prefers a sunny to partially shaded position and grows well in nutrient-rich, well-drained soil.
Quality of the berry
The berries of the Amelanchier alnifolia Honeywood are fairly large, juicy and have a sweet, full flavour. As they ripen they change from red to dark purple to almost black. The fruits grow in clusters and can be eaten directly from the plant. They are also excellent for jam, juice, pastries and desserts. The berries of Amelanchier Honeywood ripen later than those of other Amelanchier alnifolia varieties.
