About the Fernette
The Juglans r. Fernette is a commonly used nut in French nut production. It is a cross between the Franquette and Lara varieties. Is known for its regular high yields. It requires low temperatures in winter for good yields. For good pollination, 10% fernor is planted between the Fernette in nut production. The final height of the tree between 15-20 metres, depending on the location. Suitable for large gardens, wide streets or parks. Preferably planted in full sun or light shade in a sheltered spot without frost spots. Tolerates many types of soil, but is happier on light, sandy, well-drained soils
Quality of note
The fruit of the yielding walnut tree ripens from late September to mid-October. Shortly before the fruit is ripe, there is still a thick, fleshy green husk around it. It is only when the husk cracks and the nut falls out that it is ripe and tastes mild and sweet.
