How do I plant my tree?

Step 1:

Make a planting hole twice the size of the tree's root ball/pot.

Step 2:

Break up the walls of the dug hole with the shovel.

Step 3:

Add a planting hole improver if required.

Step 4:

Plant the tree as high as it was in the container.

Step 5:

Make a raised border around the tree with soil for easy watering.

Step 6:

Place two tree stakes a 30cm from the tree and attach them to the stakes with natural binding material.

Step 7:

Clear a 1-metre diameter tree bed of plantings and keep it that way for the first few years.

Step 8:

During the dry period, water densely, on average 10 litres once a week. If in doubt, always contact us.

A planting leaflet is included with every delivery.

Advice:

The average walnut tree does not like a wet location, so make sure you plant it at a slightly higher spot in your garden so that the tree does not end up in a puddle of water during the winter.

About Corylus colurna ‘Granat’

Corylus colurna ‘Granat’ is a vigorous ornamental tree with a straight trunk and a well-shaped crown. The young leaves emerge in a striking reddish-purple hue and later turn dark green. Corylus ‘Granat’ is not reliably self-pollinating, so we recommend planting it alongside another hazel tree. The tree thrives best in nutrient-rich, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Corylus Granat is highly tolerant of drought and heat, making it ideal for avenues, parks, and gardens.

 


Nut Quality

Corylus colurna ‘Granat’ produces hazelnuts that grow in clusters. The nuts are smaller than those of the common hazel. They ripen in the fall and are surrounded by a striking, deeply indented husk. This makes them a particularly attractive addition to the tree’s ornamental value.
