About Asimina triloba Selection 4-2
Asimina triloba ‘Selection 4-2’, also known as ‘Potomac ®’, is a hardy pawpaw native to the United States. This cultivar is known for its narrow, upright growth habit and very large fruits with plenty of creamy yellow flesh and few seeds. In the spring, the tree blooms with striking dark red-purple flowers. The tree grows best in a sunny to lightly shaded location in humus-rich, well-drained soil. ‘Selection 4-2’ is not self-pollinating and requires another Asimina cultivar for successful fruit set.
Fruit Quality
The fruits of Asimina triloba ‘Selection 4-2’ are very large, averaging between 250 and 450 grams. They are oval to elongated and contain plenty of creamy yellow flesh with few seeds. The flavor is deliciously sweet and reminiscent of a combination of banana, mango, and vanilla.
