The Broadview
Walnut tree Juglans regia Broadview is a selection found in British Columbia (Canada 1930) on the Broadview farm. Suitable for general use. Planted for decades in the Netherlands as a standard variety. Has green leaves and a yellow autumn colour. Broadvieuw flowers mid-season, is a self-pollinator and asexual reproduction also occurs. For a walnut, a smaller-sized tree (8 to 10 metres after 12 years). By planting the Broadview walnut tree, you get a healthy and smaller-growing tree that will do well in most locations. A fun fact is that Juglans regia ‘Broadview’ has the property of repelling mosquitoes.
The Bucanneer
The Bucanneer walnut tree is a selection originating from the Neer area in Limburg (the Netherlands). It is an old production variety that is widely used in the Netherlands and surrounding areas. The tree is a strong grower, with an upright crown that later develops into a broad crown. The tree is suitable for both private individuals with larger gardens and professional use. It is also a good pollinator for better nut production of the Juglans r. Broadview. A nice combination of two healthy varieties.
Nut quality
The Broadview produces beautiful, good-quality nuts, which ripen from the second half of September and are suitable for fresh consumption, but also for storage. The Bucanneer produces beautiful nuts with a good flavour at a young age. The nut itself is medium to large with a hard, rough, and wrinkled shell. As the tree ages, it will produce more and more fruit, making its combination of good fruit bearer and pollinator very popular.
