About the Jolico dogwood
The young Jolico dogwood is a self-pollinating tree selected for its early and abundant fruit yield. For an optimal harvest, we recommend planting a second variety alongside it. The Jolico dogwood (Cornus mas Jolico) has an upright growth habit and can be planted in a pot or in the ground. The tree blooms in early spring with beautiful yellow flowers and is very hardy (down to approx. -34.4°C). The Cornus mas Jolico dogwood can be pruned in winter or early spring and reaches a height of approx. 5-7 metres.
Quality of the dogwood berries
The dogwood is a beautiful, large, shiny dark red berry measuring approximately 3-4 cm. When fully ripe, the fruits should be deep red and almost ready to fall from the tree to achieve the best flavour. This makes them sweeter, but they retain a slightly sour cherry flavour. The berries are widely used in the production of jam, jelly or alcoholic beverages.
