About Asimina triloba Selection 2-9/Allegheny®
The Asimina triloba ‘Selection 2-9’, also known as ‘Allegheny®’, is a hardy pawpaw native to the United States. This cultivar is known for its early ripening, high yield, and excellent fruit quality. The large fruits have creamy yellow flesh with a sweet flavor. In the spring, the tree blooms with dark red-purple flowers. The tree grows best in a sunny to lightly shaded location in humus-rich, well-drained soil. ‘Selection 2-9’ is not self-pollinating and requires another Asimina cultivar for good fruit set.
Fruit Quality
The fruits of Asimina triloba ‘Selection 2-9’, also known as ‘Allegheny®’, weigh on average between 100 and 200 grams. They are large, oval in shape, and have creamy yellow flesh with a soft, custard-like texture. The flavor is deliciously sweet and reminiscent of a combination of banana, mango, and vanilla.
