About Asimina triloba ‘Wansevwan’/'Shenandoah®'
The Asimina triloba ‘Wansevwan’, also known as ‘Shenandoah®’, is a unique fruit tree native to North America. This hardy pawpaw variety is known for its high-quality fruit and large, low-seeded fruits. The tree grows best in a sunny to partially shaded location in nutrient-rich, well-drained soil. Dark red-purple flowers appear in the spring, followed by sweet fruits with creamy flesh that ripen in September. ‘Wansevwan’ is not self-pollinating and requires another Asimina triloba cultivar for good fruit set.
Fruit Quality
The fruits of Asimina triloba ‘Wansevwan’, also known as ‘Shenandoah®’ weigh approximately 150 to 300 grams and have creamy, soft flesh with a very sweet, mild flavor. The flavor is reminiscent of a combination of banana, mango, and vanilla. Thanks to the very small number of seeds, a large portion of the fruit consists of edible flesh, making this variety known for its excellent fruit quality.
