The Milanówek Mulberry
The Milanówek mulberry is a vigorous selection originating from Poland, chosen for its excellent winter hardiness, high productivity, and sweet, aromatic fruits. The tree stands out with its large heart‑shaped leaves and fast growth, making it highly appreciated both as an ornamental tree and as a fruit tree.
Milanówek is a strong, reliable mulberry that performs well in a wide range of climates. Young trees can be somewhat sensitive to severe frost, but once established it becomes a robust tree with very few issues. It can be pruned to keep it compact, but without pruning it will grow into a beautiful medium‑sized tree with a natural, elegant spread.
Mulberry Quality
Milanówek produces dark red to almost black mulberries that can be eaten fresh from the tree. Their flavour is sweet, juicy, and aromatic, comparable to blackberries but with a finer texture. The fruits are rich in antioxidants, vitamins C, E and B, and full of natural sugars and fibres. Morus alba ‘Milanówek’ has a long harvest period from June to September with abundant fruit production. Many mulberry varieties are sweet, but Milanówek has a deeper aroma — almost a combination of raspberry and blackberry with a subtle spiciness.
