About Castanea Lyon
The Castanea sativa Dorée de Lyon chestnut tree is a healthy, fertile tree with edible fruits. It is one of the best-known and most widely used edible chestnut tree varieties. With its dark green lanceolate leaves and spring flowering, it is a real asset to your garden. It also remains a fairly compact tree with a final height of around 8 meters. Planting several different varieties together often results in higher production with better-filled chestnuts. Because we graft this variety onto a resistant rootstock, the tree is much less susceptible to many diseases such as phytoftora.
The Chestnut
After 2-3 years, the Lyon chestnut tree produces its first chestnuts, which are large in size compared to many other varieties. In September, they fall out of their husks and can be picked up. We recommend harvesting them just before they fall out of their husks so that the fruit is not damaged or affected.
