How do I plant my tree?

Step 1:

Make a planting hole twice the size of the tree's root ball/pot.

Step 2:

Break up the walls of the dug hole with the shovel.

Step 3:

Add a planting hole improver if required.

Step 4:

Plant the tree as high as it was in the container.

Step 5:

Make a raised border around the tree with soil for easy watering.

Step 6:

Place two tree stakes a 30cm from the tree and attach them to the stakes with natural binding material.

Step 7:

Clear a 1-metre diameter tree bed of plantings and keep it that way for the first few years.

Step 8:

During the dry period, water densely, on average 10 litres once a week. If in doubt, always contact us.

A planting leaflet is included with every delivery.

Advice:

The average walnut tree does not like a wet location, so make sure you plant it at a slightly higher spot in your garden so that the tree does not end up in a puddle of water during the winter.

About the Pawnee

Carya illoinensis ‘Pawnee’ is one of the most commonly used species for pitch pine cultivation in the Carya family. The tree is native to North America but was mainly spread by Native Americans, hence the species' name.

The height of a mature tree is 10-15 metres. However, the tree prunes very well and can be kept smaller if desired.

This makes the tree ideal for the garden but it can also be planted well in nature or in parks.

The tree is partially self-pollinating, but we recommend planting it together with another species of Carya. For this, we have put together a peccarya package that you can also order from us. This package ensures proper pollination of the pekan nut trees.

The improved Carya species are very difficult to obtain, but from now on they are available from us!

 

Quality of note

The Pawnee is one of the larger nuts in the Carya family and starts ripening in September, this is earlier than most Pecan nuts. The oil content of the fruit is very high so people sometimes specifically desire the nut from the Pawnee.

    Der Baum ist sehr gut angewachsen und treibt auch gut aus. Allerdings sind es viele parallel Triebe ohne das eine baumtypische Spitze auszumachen ist. Das rührt wohl vom letzten Winter her, wonach die höchsten Triebe vertrocknet waren. Hoffentlich ist nach dem kommenden Winter die Situation besser und der Baum hat einen bleibende Höhenzuwachs zu verzeichnen. Ich bin optimistisch.

    Die Lieferung erfolgte zügig, der Baum macht einen guten, gesunden Eindruck. Bisher bin ich zufrieden und verteile gerne 5 Punkte! Ich würde jederzeit wieder bei Nootsaeck bestellen.
