How do I plant my tree?

Step 1:

Make a planting hole twice the size of the tree's root ball/pot.

Step 2:

Break up the walls of the dug hole with the shovel.

Step 3:

Add a planting hole improver if required.

Step 4:

Plant the tree as high as it was in the container.

Step 5:

Make a raised border around the tree with soil for easy watering.

Step 6:

Place two tree stakes a 30cm from the tree and attach them to the stakes with natural binding material.

Step 7:

Clear a 1-metre diameter tree bed of plantings and keep it that way for the first few years.

Step 8:

During the dry period, water densely, on average 10 litres once a week. If in doubt, always contact us.

A planting leaflet is included with every delivery.

Advice:

The average walnut tree does not like a wet location, so make sure you plant it at a slightly higher spot in your garden so that the tree does not end up in a puddle of water during the winter.

About Zanthoxylum armatum

The Zanthoxylum armatum Szechuan pepper tree is a distinctive aromatic shrub or small tree from Asia. The plant has thorny branches green leaves and striking reddish fruits with a fresh citrus scent.

The tree prefers a sunny to partially shaded position in nutrient-rich and well-drained soil.

Fruit quality

The fruits have a strong, citrusy flavour with distinct notes of grapefruit and lime. The aromatic fruit husks produce a pronounced tingling and slightly numbing sensation on the tongue and are widely used in Asian cuisine. When used as a spice, only the fruit husk is used, not the seed.
