Location and care
Fruit-bearing hazels grow best in a sunny to partially shaded position. They are not very demanding when it comes to soil, but prefer nutrient-rich, well-drained and sufficiently moist soil. Water young plants regularly during dry periods to help them establish a strong root system.

Growth and harvest
Fruit-bearing hazels develop into strong, broad shrubs and are suitable for gardens, vegetable gardens and orchards. Their distinctive catkins appear in early spring. After successful pollination, the hazelnuts develop and usually ripen in late summer and autumn. Ripe hazelnuts can be eaten fresh, roasted or used in a variety of dishes.

Combining fruit-bearing hazels
For a good harvest, it is advisable to plant several different varieties together, as many hazels benefit from cross-pollination. With the right location and care, you can enjoy a healthy plant and home-grown hazelnuts for many years.
